Civil War Veteran, Farmer.[5],[6] On Silas' Declaration For Pension, 29 September,
1913 he lists his places of residence since the War as Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska
and California. He married (1) ca 1868/9 in Iowa, Laura E Scutt, b. ca 16-Dec-1836 in New York,[7] d.
7-Jul-1886 in Vinton, Benton Co., Iowa,[8],[9],[10] buried
8-Jul-1886 in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, Iowa,[11],[12] cause
of death Hemorrhage as a result of consumption.[13] Laura: Date of birth 16 December, 1836 is calulated
from the information on Laura's headstone that says she was 49 years, 6 months
and 21 days at the time of her death, July 7, 1886. Another source from Donald Kearns says that
she was born 5 January, 1837 but I do not have a source for this so opted
to go with the tombstone date. He married (2) 13-Jan-1876 in Avoca, Pottawattamie
Co.,

She was taken suddenly ill while attending a ball game at Daykin. She was first seen by a passer-by & taken to Dr. Brown's office where she died in a few minutes, while her two brothers were playing ball. Information from the Fairbury Journal 9/15/1911. She was buried September 4, 1911.
